SUBJECT: Ratify the Fire Department submission of a grant for hazardous materials
equipment from the Montana Department of Homeland Security.

RECOMMENDATION: Ratify the Fire Department submission of a grant for hazardous
materials equipment from the Montana Department of Homeland
Security.
BACKGROUND: City Administrative Order 2014-01 requires notification of the City
Manager and City Commission of any grant applications exceeding $20,000 within 30 days of
the application. On Feb 28, 2019, the fire department applied for a grant in the amount of
$20,000 through the State Department of Homeland Security. These grant funds if awarded
would be used to purchase haz-mat medications that are expiring, personal protective equipment,
replacement sensors for existing air monitors, and necessary calibration gases for the existing air
monitors. The grant has a zero match requirement.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission
FISCAL EFFECTS: None at this time as the grant has no required matching funds.
