It is absolutely ridiculous that there is an additional $3.95 processing charge for online payments. I highly doubt it can cost the city of Bozeman four dollars to process a payment in this way, and even if it did this fee should be included in the cost of the citation. $3.95 may not seem much to a wealthy city commissioner, but as a student who is left little choice but to pick between poor grades and underemployment, that amount could feed me for a day. Frankly this is insult to injury to me, as I'd be perfectly happy to walk or ride my bike to and from the University campus, except that due to the unsafe winter conditions of the road and sidewalks between my home and campus I am forced to drive. I do empathize with the desire of residents to preserve parking spaces in a busy neighborhood, yet I have never seen ever spot on those streets occupied, meaning my violation was a truly victimless crime. In summation, I was willing to take my lickings and pay the enormous fine levied upon me by this city until it sprang a hidden fee on me like some sort of unscrupulous cable company. Now I'm left feeling bullied and downtrodden by a power system against which I have no recourse.
