Commissioners..
On street parking is good for citizens- - like to jump out and do business without going to park garage.
On street parking is good for merchants - -they want the same thing
because they recognize that I select among them on the ease of access, ie on street..
With new building, developers must demonstrate parking space…
most want to minimize their contribution.. ie claim fewer vehicles spaces than they really need (eg visitors),
claim smaller spaces than they really need (i wrote earlier cf WSJ that pickups and vans use ‘a space and a half’
each), and
lease space in the parking garage [ Andy Halloran (sp) and who else.] and, even worse, trade leased space for street
space!!
Such money grubbing developers should be doing what consciencious developers (eg Aspen Point) are doing:
Build parking space under (or over) their buildings.
Why should we the citizens (you) subsidize them.
Such subsidization is an outrage. And widely recognized as such.
I hear much grumbling about your giving away citizen resources.
I have never heard a counter-grumble. I suspect that all counter-grumbles are within the developer community.
Please weigh the interests of your citizens against developers.
I feel certain the right will be obvious, as so might ask what other motives you might have for contrary action.
