Dear Sir or Madam:
My home is located at 919 West Villard, Bozeman. I am the homeowner. My home is in the
high school parking district which requires a pass be purchased to park on the street.
This district was established to assist homeowners in this area who were overwhelmed with
non-residents and students parking on the street in front of their homes. The purpose behind
establishing this district was to make this situation easier on the residents.
However, it has made things worse in the case of the resident and/or guests parking on the
street. I have been told that I must purchase a parking permit to park on the street in front of
my own home. Also, anyone who comes to visit me must purchase a parking permit.
This regulation is totally discriminatory toward residents who reside in the parking district and
their guests. Other people in the city who do not live in a parking district are not required to
pay (purchase a permit)to part;on the streets in front of their homes. Neither does anyone
visiting those residents have to pay (purchase a permit)to park on those streets.
This practice is totally unfair and discriminatory. I believe this rule should be re-visited and
changed so residents and their visitors do not have to pay to park on the street in this area.
Something could be done to issue the resident a sticker or parking pass so their car was
exempt. Also, free parking passes should be issued to visitors to those residences.
I request you make this letter available to the Parking Commissioners at their next meeting so
this subject can be placed on the agenda and addressed.
