We have lived here since the inception of the Lakes and were one of the first families in the area as the development blossomed. One of the primary reasons we moved here was the promise by the developers, Kilday-Stratton, that the subdivision would be one where the beauty of the surrounding landscape would blend in with the homes that were to built here. As the development has spread, it has been increasingly more difficult to enjoy our surroundings in the evening with the level of light pollution coming off of the overhead street lights, namely, the tall sodium lamp directly outside of our bedroom window/front porch. These lights were not disclosed by the city plans we were presented, the developers themselves, or the builder. If this would have been the case, we would have designed our floor plan differently so as to not have to consistently have every our shades drawn on the front of the house (the main reason we designed it the way we did) to keep out the intense light pouring in. We have been in contact with the developer, Kilday-Stratton, numerous times to where they agreed that the tall lights used on Westmorland Drive and Laurel Parkway are, in Greg Stratton's words," "a menace" and need to have "light collars" installed on them". But, with many requests, and even onsite meetings with Greg, the concerned residents' cries have fallen on deaf ears. with false promises by the development company that something would be done to rectify the situation. With all of the concerns we have voiced, we are now presented with the Lighting District. This is like rubbing salt into an open and oozing wound. I am in full disagreement of the development company's choice of lighting and, in turn, the creation of the Lighting District. If we as owners of the surrounding area would have been told that a Lighting District would attempt to be be created, we would not have agreed with the type of wasteful lights that were installed in the area. We do not agree with the creation of a Lighting District as we were not given the choice of any lighting styles, designs, or lights with different energy consumption of said lights that were forced on the neighborhood. Please hear my voice on this matter and put yourselves in the position of the homeowners who were sold these beautiful properties and not made aware of any alternative lighting options that would have been less light polluting, less intrusive, and more energy conscious. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
