Bozeman City Commission:
In response to Special Improvement lighting Lighting District 728. We own a house and a lot in the Lakes at
Valley West, 5395 Westmorland and the adjacent lot.
We vote against the creation of a lighting district that will unfairly impact the residents of the Lakes. These
lights are for the benefit of the public health and safety of all Bozeman residents who use these streets and
the park. We the residents have been trying to work with the developer, Stratton Kilday, un-successfully, on
the many problems associated with the selected and installed light fixtures. They are extremely wasteful
with the amount of excess light that is spilling onto the adjacent houses and open spaces beyond the roads.
The lights have no screens to baffle the lights and focus the lights onto the roadways, and instead we see
the glare of bright urban lights, that seriously impact the night sky and the environmental preserve areas
adjacent to the roadways.
If we the residents were going to assume the cost for the energy and the maintenance, we would have
selected the correct light fixtures for not only the health and safety of the Bozeman community, but lights
that would not spill directly into the bedrooms and living areas of the homes, nor spill beyond the edges of
the roadways into the natural areas, and that would be cost efficient and not wasteful.
We do not agree with the creation of the lighting district, we do not agree with the type of lights that were
selected, and we do not want to assume the cost for the energy and the maintenance of lights that are a
negative element within our neighborhood.
Regards,
Michael and Denise Mckay
