It is our understanding that this land is "sale pending" by developers. With an open view of that land from our properties, we have observed a myriad of raptors (hawks, osprey, bald eagles, kestrel and owls) in addition to herons and sandhill cranes to name a few. In fact, there are nesting pairs as well as literally hundreds of cranes that use this area in the fall as a "pre-staging" area during migration. We have documented these flocks as well as their ongoing use of the area as habitat all season long. We are very concerned about the elimination of this habitat for the migrating birds as well as other local birds and wildlife. This is an extremely low-lying area with two creeks passing through making this a valuable wetland. Please consider this as you move forward with your new "Growth Policy" and strategic planning designations for this area. Besides these concerns for wildlife, given the low-lying nature of this land, it would be extremely costly to bring city utilities into and out of this area. We would be happy to present our documentation of this habitat to the commissioners at any time. Myself and another neighbor plan to be present at the January 28th City Commission Meeting.
