The city received our petition on October 29th 2018 Please ensure that our petition is presented to the parking commission this Thursday. It is not currently shown on the agenda. As I had mentioned in my email to you all last week, there are some operations and policy changes in the works within the Parking Division. I didn’t know how applications for being “annexed” into an existing Residential Parking Permit District were handled. Here is the procedure – After receiving your petition, the City will mail out a survey to all properties that would potentially be affected by the change. It will ask for response in the form of support or opposition to the change. Also, the City will collect on-site parking data by conducting “occupancy counts”. This will entail visiting those street sections three times per day, over three days. The days will be in different weeks and will be different days of the week. Obviously as MSU and public schools will not be in session over winter break, data will not be collected until those schedules resume in the New Year. The survey results and the occupancy count data will be compiled and given to the Parking Commission to consider. They will make the decision. At this moment, it would seem that this could be accomplished in the winter months, with a Parking Commission review and decision to occur in the spring at a regular meeting. That timing could change depending on the survey, data collection, and parking commission agenda. This is what I have found out thus far. Thank you and again, please do reach out to me with any questions that you have now or in the future. I told him that I had emailed you, and asked that I make sure Mary was included in my email response to you all. I also told him I would follow up with him about progress and decisions made with regards to this and other related issues. I work closely with the Parking division in other parts of town, and I hope you’ll consider me a resource for communication and understanding of policy, etc. After seeing your comment, I asked Ed about the request and petition, and have tried to learn as much as I can about the issue(s) at hand. I want you to know that your comment, as well as previous questions and comments over the past couple of months, are being heard. There are many operations and policies changes being worked on within the Parking Division right now, and I am available to help clarify and communicate as I can. We have scheduled a meeting for next week to discuss this and other parking related matters. After that has occurred, I will get back to you with more details. In the meantime, if you have specific questions you’d like me to investigate, please send them my way, and I will respond.
