From: Jessica Ahlstrom, Water Conservation Specialist Shawn Kohtz, Interim Director of Public Works
Subject: Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation
Renewable Resource Grant Agreement for the Sunset Hills
Cemetery and Lindley Park Water Conservation Project
Meeting Date: December 17, 2018
Agenda Item Type: Consent Item
Recommendation: Authorize the City Manager to sign a Grant Award Agreement from the
Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Renewable Resource Grant
Program to support the Sunset Hills Cemetery and Lindley Park Water Conservation Project.
Background: The City of Bozeman seeks approval to accept an award from a grant application submitted pursuant to approval by the City Commission on May 23, 2016 to the Montana
Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Renewable Resource Grant Program for
funding to support the Sunset Hills Cemetery and Lindley Park Water Conservation Project.
The City requested and received an award of $125,000.00 for this project. This award facilitates the completion of the Project through December 2019. The project is planned to occur during the summer of 2019.
This project will conserve potable water supplies currently being used for irrigation at Sunset
Hills Cemetery and Lindley Park, reduce safety risks to city staff associated with the existing
diversion structure on Bozeman Creek, and increase instream flows for fish habitat in Bozeman
Creek. Estimated water savings realized upon completion of the Project total 1,141 Acre Feet.1
Alternatives: As suggested by the Commission.
Fiscal Effects: The grant requires matching funds which have been provided for in the City’s
Capital Improvement Plan for FY 19, in-kind services, and through the Bureau of Reclamation
1 Morrison & Maierle Engineering Preliminary Engineering Report, April 2016 (on file with Water Conservation
Specialist).
