To Members of the Bozeman City Commission,
I’m writing to ask for assistance in adding my neighborhood surrounding Cooper Park to the
Residential Parking Permit District.
Earlier this fall, I contacted Ed Meece regarding this issue, as the parking congestion aroundCooper Park due to MSU employees and students has increased significantly in the past 2
years. His instructions to me were to draft a petition, submit it to him and he would present itto the Parking Commission for consideration.
I have completed the petition, which has overwhelming support among the neighbors. This
was submitted to Mr. Meece last month, in time to be presented to the November 2018Parking Commission. However, he stated he would not present it due to “internal discussion”
in his Department.
Upon inquiry this month, Mr. Meece stated he has no intention of submitting our petition tothe Parking Commission at all.
There is unanimous support on my block for addition to the Parking District. We are asking to
be added to keep our neighborhood streets safe and decrease congestion. MSU parking in ourneighborhood has increased significantly in the past two years and is posing serious safety
concerns, including difficult emergency access for Fire/EMS, especially during the wintermonths.
I understand that the City is considering changing the Residential District rules in general. My
neighbors and I are requesting to be added now with the knowledge that the system maychange in the future. We need help now to keep our streets safer and less congested.
Please advise my neighbors and me on how to best proceed with our request.
