Dear Chris,
I am writing to you today to plead with the City Commission to please address the very clear and obvious danger
that the 27th & Oak intersection poses to not only anyone driving on either road, but mainly to those of us who try
to use the marked crosswalk as a pedestrian.
At 12:17 PM this afternoon, a vehicle turning west onto Oak from 27th came within one foot of hitting me when I
was running through the clear intersection. I fundamentally believe I came within a foot of losing my life. The
gentleman driving the pickup that nearly hit me tracked me down two blocks later to apologize. He was near-tears,
visibly shaken and extremely apologetic - as he should have been. However, I told him that the City of Bozeman is
really who owes us both an apology for very clearly creating an unsafe situation in that intersection.
My family when going on walks has had multiple instances of close calls at this dreaded intersection. We hear
horror stories of other parents who live north of Oak and send their children to school on foot or on bike at Emily
Dickinson with no controlled intersections to use unless they walk to 19th or the roundabout at Davis. This is
unacceptable. While a roundabout or stoplight absolutely MUST be placed at that intersection in the long-run, there
HAVE to be near-term approaches we can use to improve safety. Can the City install a flashing light system similar
to Kagy & 11th?
I beg you and the Commission to please take up an effort to put our taxes to work and protect the safety of our
citizens. It is simply a matter of time before a major tragedy occurs at that intersection if nothing is done – please
take action to save lives. Thank you for your time and for your immediate action to implement a solution to protect
our citizens - especially our children.
Best regards,
Jason Jimmerson
