I am planning to vote against the bond issue for the construction of the Bozeman Safety Center. However,
this is not because I don't think we need one. I want us to build a new one to modernize the resources
available to our emergency responders, and I think keeping them all under one roof will lend itself to
improvements in efficiency and efficacy. But by this same logic, I would like to see us muddle through the
discussions with the county and build a joint facility, or at least two immediately adjacent to one another. I
understand working with the county has been difficult.
I will vote 'for' this bond issuance if someone can contact me briefly and convince me of one of the below;
1. The new facility will be shared headquarters for both city and county (I imagine this is unworkable on
current ballot; would need a new issuance with different terms after negotiations with county, right?)
2. The city will begin construction of the safety center but will work actively with the county to encourage
them to build their new facility immediately adjacent to this one. I won't pretend to know how this could be
done, I think you will have better ideas than me. However, it seems like something like a gift of adjacent or
nearby land (e.g. Fairgrounds parking lot?) could be compelling?
Thank you,
City Of Bozeman
