I hate to vent on you guys, but...
I just got back to town Saturday evening, returning from a family funeral. (Not TOO sad, mean 104 yr old grandma died). A letter (postmarked 9/19) arrived on 9/21 about the S Side
Loft project.
I'd heard about the project on the street and in the paper, but heard NOTHING about anyofficial public events or goings on relative to it. NOTHING.
The weekend goes by. On Monday my 5 yr old breaks his arm (badly) at school. So, Monday
night is toast for reviewing applications. Tonight is my first window to review theapplication. I get to start right after dinner, at 9:20.
1) On the letter, it says the comment period ends on 9/26, giving me THREE business days to
review and respond. Additionally, there is no email address provided on the letter as adestination for comments...only a mailing address. If I used that, I'd have perhaps ONE day to
get my comments submitted on time. Forget that Im right next door. What if this was anapplication on the west side of town?? These notices should go out BEFORE (well before) the
DRB meetings, so that people like me could attend those if they wanted. If there is enoughinfo to prep a DRB meeting, there is enough for these letters to go out. DRB was more than
two weeks ago!!?? Do we want these meetings to be attended or not?
2) I assumed I could go to the city website, type in the application number and see the wholething. Well, after 15 minutes of frustrating searching by both my wife and I on separate
computers...no luck. AND THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON THE LETTER I GOTABOUT HOW TO ACCESS THE APPLICATION ONLINE. NOTHING!! This needs to
change. Really.
You can hardly imagine how frustrating this is.
Based on the rumors I have heard (since I have NO facts from the city), this is what I think:
I heard Think Tank is paying cash in lieu for off street parking to the tune of $5,000 per spot. Thats a great deal (for them). The cost should be about 4-5 times that and go into a pool to
fund the next parking garage that our appetite for infill will be necessitating in the next fewyears.
In the calculus used to determine off street parking requirements, it seems logical to me that
the fact that this building will be removing parking for the Blackmore Apartments should betaken into consideration, but Im guessing its not. So, the net effect on the street isn't just the
16 units with ??? many bedrooms, its also the 20+ cars that used to have off street parking thatwill now be on the street.
I could have given you much more feedback had I gotten this letter a month ago, with a link to
the application, but I (like my neighbors) did not.
If the city GENUINELY wants feedback, the goal should be to make the information EASY toaccess and notices should go out in a FAR more timely fashion.
Quite disappointed,
Paul Neubauer
