HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-25-18 Public Comment - C. Werre - South Side Lofts 18-261From:Clarissa Werre To:Agenda; Cyndy Andrus; Chris Mehl Subject:Southside Lofts 18-261 Date:Tuesday, September 25, 2018 11:04:04 PM Mayor Andrus and Commissioner Mehl, I was surprised and disappointed in receiving a letter in my mailbox from the city on Sept. 21st (postmarked Sept.19) informing me about my short window to submit public comment onthe Southside Lofts project. It informed me I had from Sept. 18-26 to give my input to the city. I have attempted to view the proposed plan document 18-261 on the city's website andnot been able to access the file. The letter did not give any directions on how to access the proposal's file. I am frustrated with the city being so delayed in getting this information to citizens, notproviding a clear way to access the information, and then having such a short window for us to respond. This is especially disheartening after the difficulties our neighborhood went through with theBlack Olive proposal. This letter about Southside Lofts should have been sent to neighboring residents Sept. 1st, so we could attend the DRB meeting (held on Sept. 12) and other publicforums to gather information on this proposal. I am worried that the citizens of Bozeman are going to be frustrated and give up their role of being informed participants in their city's future. I have learned from other Montana cityofficials and representatives that Bozeman FAR out-performs other MT residents in volunteering with their city leadership (citizen advisory committees, boards, etc.). Thecommission is getting a reputation for ignoring its advisory boards' input (from Black-Olive review and others). Sending letters to citizens with this much tardiness only worsens thisreputation. The city should be less concerned about meeting minimum legal requirements, and instead get this information out to citizens with adequate time to enable them to participate in theseforums. Notifying adjacent residents of a project in this manner is not the action of a "well run city." Sincerely, Clarissa Werre210 S. Bozeman Ave.
