RESOLUTION 2018-05
A RESOLUTION OF THE PARKING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BOZEMAN, MONTANA, ADOPTING
POLICIES TO PROMOTE ACCESSIBILITY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
WHEREAS, individuals with mobility impairments or other disabilities may take more time than able-
bodied individuals at a parking location to go to or return from their destination; and,
WHEREAS, those individuals may not be able to spend as much time at their destination as an able-
bodied individual due to the longer time needed to go to or from a parking stall; and,
WHEREAS,the Bozeman Parking Commission recognizes the importance of equal access for able-bodied
and disabled residents and visitors to homes and businesses; and,
WHEREAS, residential parking permit districts limit or exclude vehicles without a permit from parking
near residences; and
WHEREAS, an individual with a mobility impairment or other disability may need to park near their
residence to safely access their vehicle; and,
WHEREAS, an able-bodied resident may choose to forgo purchase of a residential parking permit while
a mobility-impaired resident may lack that choice out of necessity;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Bozeman Parking Commission adopts the following policies
regarding parking of vehicles displaying a current and valid disabled or disabled veteran license plate or disability
placard:
1. A vehicle displaying a current and valid disabled license plate or disability placard driven by a driver
or transporting another person designated as disabled in Bozeman Code Sec. 36.04.560 may park for
two hours in excess of posted time limits in a designated public disabled parking space without a
fine.
2. Drivers holding a current and valid disability placard valid for more than 12 months from date of
application may apply to the City of Bozeman for a municipal disability permit to be associated with
the license plate for a vehicle that they regularly drive or are transported in.
3. The municipal disability permit shall be valid for the length of the validity of the applicant's disability
placard.
4. In public on-street parking spaces not restricted to vehicles displaying a disabled license plate or
disability placard, a vehicle displaying a current and valid disabled license plate, or which has been
granted a current and valid municipal disability permit by the City of Bozeman (as mentioned above),
and driven by a driver or transporting another person designated as disabled in Bozeman Code Sec.
36.04.560, may park for two hours in excess of posted time limits.
5. Parking beyond two hours in excess of posted time limits is subject to citation and fine. Vehicles
displaying a disabled license plate or disability placard, or holding a disability permit from the City of
Bozeman, must follow all other parking restrictions.
6. Residents who reside within a residential parking permit district who hold a valid disability permit
from the Montana Motor Vehicles Division may request a discount of 50 percent for the price of all
residential parking permits for vehicles that they own and regularly park at that residence.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Parking Commission of the City of Bozeman, Montana, at a session held
on the 13th day of September 2018. This resolution hall become effective immediately.
