To the Bozeman City Commission:
We here at the American Legion Gallatin Post 14 have a growing concern regarding the
parking situation in our area. Currently the few parking spaces we rent will be shared with new
tenants to our west. Soon after, the building to our east will start construction, all trying to share
these limited parking spaces.
There is a building to our north that has been vacant for many years. We were
wondering if we could purchase the building,(with our neighbors),to develop a multiple story
parking garage. Adding 40 to 60 parking spaces would alleviate the future perking fiasco that
will occur soon.
We have approximately 3,000 sq.ft.in our basement that we cannot finish and use
because we were denied permits due to the lack of parking space availability. We were planning
on renting that space to make revenue, but now it is just a useless piece of real.estate.
We are already hearing complaints,on a daily basis, regarding the difficulty of locating a
parking space. One of our monthly Veteran's organization user of our upstairs meeting hall is
currently looking for another location due to the lack of parldng(40 to 50 members)(loss of
revenue). There is also grumbling from others.
There is one alternative if it is not possible to construct a parking garage and that,of
course,is relocating to another part of the city. We have to look to the future. Three new
buildings, soon to be completed, and not one parking space included in the plans. When the next
two buildings are completed the 7 spaces we rent each month will go to them as they can afford
to pay the large increase for their rent.
We hope we can work together to address these impending issues. We are willing to
meet at your convenience.
Sincerely,
