MSU School of Architecture ADU Presentation - SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS MONTANACity of Bozeman—School of Architecture Community Design Center STATE UNIVERSITY Accessory Dwelling Unit Affordable Housing Initiative College of Project Description ARTS &ARCHITECTURE Phase I - Design 1. Students in the Community Design Center Studio will create a series of ADU designs and construction documents for various size properties in neighborhoods throughout Bozeman. all -� - 2. City staff will work with the students to ensure that the designs comply with Bozeman Zoning and Building Codes. a. Construction consultants will review the designs, make recommendations and develop cost estimates for each of the designs. b. A financial consultant will develop financing strategies and estimated return on investments. c. The construction documents will be reviewed by the building department and upon approval,the plans will receive pre-approval for a building permit. Phase II—Community Engagement 1. Students will develop a public presentation to be given in neighborhood meetings throughout the City. a. Included in the presentation will be drawings and models of various ADU styles and sizes as they relate to zoning. b. Cost estimates and financial analysis for each design will be provided. 2. Students will create a handout summarizing the content of public presentation for participants Phase III—Sustainability of the Project 1. A web site similar in content to the"Alley Flat Initiative" in Austin,Texas will be created by the Community Design students http://thealleyflatinitiative.org/. Eligibility Planning Financing Designing Building Living 2. Students from the School of Film and Photography will documenting the process and create a three minute+/-video to be posted on the City's web site,YouTube,and in other promotional opportunities. a. The video will focus on an explanation of what an ADU is b. The advantages of ownership c. The ease process by which an ADU can be built in Bozeman. 3. A booklet will be created with information similar to that contained in the video for distribution by the City to interested parties. 4. The Planning and Building Departments will be given the models and plans for their use in demonstrating what is possible in the design of an ADU.
