HomeMy WebLinkAboutImage Service User GuideInstructions for Using a Service in your Project Free Bozeman Web Services Documented on 8/14/2018 Last edited on 8/14/2018 Bozeman GIS Department Bozeman Image Service Use This guide will show you how to use web services in your ArcMap project (Note: some other programs such as AutoCAD, etc. can also harvest web services). The services found HERE are known as ArGIS Server web services. A web service represents a GIS resource such as a map, locator, or image – that is located on an ArcGIS Server site and made available to the public. These resources require only an internet connection to function, there is nothing to download or extract. Simply follow the instructions below and begin using the data. The City of Bozeman provides access to these services free of charge and they represent the most current data available. The services accessed through the hyperlinks on the imagery page and the link noted previously in this paragraph will direct you to the City’s REST Endpoint. All of the GIS services that the City of Bozeman publishes on its ArcGIS Server are considered resources and can be accessed through the URL in the hyperlinks noted above. That URL is also known as the REST Endpoint. Within Bozeman’s REST Endpoint there are multiple folders. For the purpose of this guide, we will be specifically looking at the IMAGERY folder, although other folders contain data that can be viewed as well. Please follow the instructions below to use high performance services in your project. 1. Open up your ArcMAP project 2. Click the ADD Data button. 3. In the Add Data box that opens on your screen, look for the drop down box near the top. 4. Click this drop down box and scroll down until you see the GIS Servers option, click on this option. 5. Double Click on the option to ADD ArcGIS Server 6. Leave the default option that says “Use GIS Services” then click NEXT 7. In the server URL box, copy and paste the URL for the City of Bozeman’s REST Endpoint for our imagery services - https://gisweb.bozeman.net/cob/rest/services 8. As we are just Using GIS services, the authentication is not necessary, so click Finish at the bottom of this box. 9. In your ADD Data box, you will now see a new connection, likely named “cob on gisweb.bozeman.net (user). This is the connection we will use in our project to access the data in the services. 10. Double click on the “cob on gisweb.bozeman.net (user)” connection and it will open, showing you a list of available GIS folders containing data to use in your project. 11. From here, click on the IMAGERY folder, select the item you are looking for, and then click ADD in the lower right hand corner to add it to your project. 12. Repeat the steps listed above to add all desired data to your project.
