Dear Chris,
As a resident who lives 1 block from the Bozeman HS, I am really concerned and disappointed with the construction
plans the district is planning.
Academically and scholastically, BSD is excellent - providing our kids with a quality education. However in terms
of BSD performance as being a good member of our community, they deserve very low grades.
For Example, after 2 years of telling the community that they were going to rebuild Van Winkle Stadium, they
changed course - weeks after the levy passed - and announced plans for a new stadium. Also, the process of selling
the Emerson Lawn displayed - on the part of BSD - no demonstration of community belonging.
And now, with multiple projects planned for the BHS campus, the district is failing to recognize that the BHS
campus is surrounded by established neighborhoods, to which BSD should be compelled to be a good neighbor.
I am specifically referring to:
1- The new stadium being planned without adequate on-site parking.
2- The performing arts center not being planned with adequate on-site parking.
3-BSD's stated intentions to severely limit any landscaping, and other barriers that will insulate the surrounding
neighborhoods from the impacts that will surely come from the substantial development that is planned. "Student
Safety" is a lame excuse.
4- BSD is neglecting to engage in Master Planning for the BHS campus.
Unfortunately, BSD is failing to recognize that it is a major presence in a rapidly growing community, where sound
planning is crucial in order to maintain quality of life and property values.
I realize that BSD is exempt from zoning and planning regulations, but I do believe that the city has some leverage
with BSD. I urge you to use that leverage to your fullest to insure that changes at BHS don't have negative impacts
on our great city.
Sincerely,
Glenn Monahan - 420 N 10th Ave
