Concisely, accurately, and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features to
correlate with the Site Map.
This is a single-story, wood-framed house, vernacular in design. The buiilding consists of a primary gable-roofed north-
south mass, and a smaller gabled wing extending eastward from the building's southern end. The house probably
dates from the middle years of the twentieth century; additions to the building have clearly taken place, but substantial
changes to the building's exterior cladding and fenestration make the scope of the additions difficult to determine. It is
clear, though, that at least the southwestern portion of the building is original.
The building rests on a concrete foundation. Exterior walls are clad with asbestos shingles, though the gable ends are
faced with vertically-scribed wood sheets. The northern third of the roof is surfaced with corrugated metal (new), while
the remainder of the roof has asphalt shingles. There is a large, tapered exterior chimney on the south elevation, made
of mortared river cobble. Windows are wood-framed, and are a mix of fixed-light and casement units; most appear to
be non-original.
The northeastern ell of the building is occupied by a large, modern exterior deck, made of lumber. A pair of full-light
doors (non-original) enter the house from the north end of the deck, and a modern half-light door enters the wing from
the south end of that deck. Areas of missing wall cladding near this second door suggest that an inset entry area
formerly existed here.
The building has been used for business, rather than residential, purposes for a number of years.

HISTORY OF PROPERTY ❑ See Additional Information Page
In the mid-1920s, Robert and Margaret Yetsinga were selling relatively small parcels of land in Section 6 north of
Bozeman to various parties. In 1926, W.A/Allen purchased a 14-acre parcel on what is today the west side of North
Rouse Avenue. One suspects had no immediate plans for development. In 1937, however, he sold a 1-acre plot to
George Carr where 1803 N. Rouse now stands. It seems likely that Carr then built a house on the plot. He sold the
north half of that 1-acre parcel to Donald and Lulu Christie in 1944, who within one year sold it to Andrew Westerdale.
Whether or not the owners ever occupied the house is unknown. By 1950, however, Westerdale began renting it to Bill
Ford. Ford later received the deed to the property(in 1959) and continued to live there until 1963 or 1964. Ford
worked at the State Highway Commission's Bozeman shop, early on as a mechanic and later as the foreman. By 1961,
Bill Ford had married, and his wife Ethel shared his house until they moved a few years later.

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE ❑ See Additional Information Page
This is a largely vernacular residence dating from the middle years of the twentieth century. At the time the house was
built, its setting was outside of Bozeman's built-up area, but recent commercial, industrial, and residential development
has largely enveloped the site.
No site-specific historical significance is known to be associated with the building, and the property's integrity has been
greatly diminished by structural alterations, a change in use, and surrounding development. For these reasons, this
building is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
INTEGRITY(location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, association) ❑ See Additional Information Page
The building retains integrity of location. Integrity of setting has been diminished by incompatible, recent construction
nearby. Other aspects of integrity have been diminished by structural additions, and changes to the building's exterior
cladding and fenestration.
