I live one block from the high school, and I have concerns about the new stadium that the school district
plans to build. This new $7 million (and probably a few million more) needs to have more public input.
I know this commission doesn’t have the power to change or reject development plans from the school
district, but thank you for holding this hearing to give the public a chance to speak.
The 3,200-seat sports stadium will be north of the existing Van Winkle Stadium. Originally I thought it was
to replace Van Winkle. The petition that neighbors have signed argues that school officials held dozens of
public meetings saying the old stadium would be rebuilt in place, but only held a meeting on short notice
when deciding to build a new stadium at a different location. We need a publicly vetted master plan that
accounts for cumulative impacts.
The auditorium at this facility will be used by both schools, and maybe other schools.
There will be a huge impact to the neighborhood.
• There are three sports slated to use the new stadium. Looking at usage, I can roughly calculate that there
will be appx 30 games played during a school year. Factoring in weather the stadium will be useable Sept,
Oct, April, May and maybe June. That is basically every Friday and Saturday.
• We have complained for years about traffic, and parking in the neighborhood, now we will have even
more.

• We need a publicly vetted master plan that accounts for cumulative impacts. The school district is using
exemptions that will have a detrimental effect on the neighborhood, the use of street parking, instead of
on-campus spaces, to meet requirements.
• Another impact to the neighborhood is the R-5 zoning area that is across Durston
also have an impact to the neighborhood.
Please use any influence that you have to work with the school district to use the same guidelines that they
are using for the new high school and to work with those most affected, the neighborhood.
Thank you for considering my comments.
