Number the buildings and features to correlate with the Site Map. This is a irregularly-shaped, vernacular-style, multiple-family residence. It consists of a probable historic mass to the north, and a second, somewhat larger non-historic mass to the south, which partially replicates the original area in design. This configuration created a high, double gable roof, which is covered with asphalt shingles. There is an interior concrete block chimney. The exterior of the house is stuccoed on the first floor and has shingle siding on the second floor. The windows are double-hung 1/1 units occurring singly and in pairs; there is also a fixed plate window, flanked by a double-hung 1/1. All doors and windows appear to be modern. The porch has a gable roof supported by square wooden posts and a plain wood balustrade. The second entry (north of the main entry) has an overdoor which consists simply of sheet metal strips. The foundation is concrete. A one-story rear addition (non-historic) has the same siding as the house. MONTANA HISTORIC PROPERTY RECORD PAGE 3 Property Name: 424 North Rouse Site Number: 24 GA 1700 HISTORY OF PROPERTY ❑ See Additional Information Page Andrew and Florence Roedel purchased the lot on which the house at 424 N. Rouse stands in 1948. The move of an older home to the site was accompanied by the construction of a major addition on the south. The new building served multiple families. During the early and mid-1950s, the Roedels shared the residence with renters employed in a variety of occupations including sales, car lubrication, theatre film operation, soil science, and grocery service. The Roedels sold the apartments in 1963. INFORMATION SOURCESBIBLIOGRAPHY ❑ See Additional Information Page 1927/revised to 1943 Sanborn map R.L. Polk& Company. While representative of the practice of"infilling" vacant lots in established residential neighborhoods, the building does not have documented historic associations to the area. In addition, the dramatic expansion of the building following its relocation essentially destroyed its historic integrity. For these reasons, this building is not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. INTEGRITY(location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, association) ❑ See Additional Information Page The relocation and subsequent expansion of this building destroyed all aspects of the building's historic integrity.
