I wrote the commission over two years ago in support of a proposed Parks Maintenance District, and am thrilled
that the city is now seriously looking at moving forward with it. As I stated in that email two years ago: "As a 10-
year homeowner in Bozeman, once in the Cattail Creek subdivision and now in the Harvest Creek subdivision, I
have always had to pay a significant amount of HOA dues in support of maintaining the "city" parkland within
these subdivisions. This is double taxation, and is unfair to residents who happen to live in subdivisions where park
maintenance is set up this way. Those living next to Southside Park, or Beall Park, or Bogert Park do not pay extra
taxes to upkeep those parks, yet they could go over and recreate in Cattail Creek, Harvest Creek, Valley West (etc.)
and reap the benefits of the money those neighboring residents pay to upkeep those parks."
My feelings as they are, I am disappointed with the editorial in today's Chronicle, and plan to write a response in
the form of a letter to the editor. My question for you: Is there a group of citizens organizing to support the city-
wide park and trails district? Please know that the proposed district has my initial support, and I'd be happy to
volunteer some time to educate and inform citizens as more details become available (i.e. the cost (and potential
cost savings) of the district).
