Nordtvedt - High Taxable Value ConstructionFrom:Cyndy Andrus To:Agenda Subject:FW: knordtvedt@bresnan.net Date:Monday, July 16, 2018 4:52:59 PM FYI   From: webadmin@bozeman.net [mailto:webadmin@bozeman.net]  Sent: Monday, July 16, 2018 12:27 PM To: Cyndy Andrus <CAndrus@BOZEMAN.NET> Subject: knordtvedt@bresnan.net Message submitted from the <City Of Bozeman> website. Site Visitor Name: Kenneth NordtvedtSite Visitor Email: knordtvedt@bresnan.net I am not sure who is paying the consultant from Urban3 to come to Bozeman to tell us downtown bozeman construction tends to be the highest taxable value per acre in the county?Duh! 9 out of 10 people who actually handle their property tax payments would probably be aware of this. Hope those consultants did not get too much money for this profoundinformation. However: because this high taxable value construction is in TIF districts, neither Bozeman, nor Gallatin, nor our school district gets a dime of new taxes from this new property for thelifetime of the downtown TIF district. Yet, the various government services for this new property and the people it brings have started immediately. So it looks like we taxpayers are ina hole for many years. It is a myth that subsidized growth makes us richer; it may make some developers richer. So I would not be surprised that this consultant's fees were paid by the thedowntown TIF district, itself, in effort to bamboozle Bozemanites? I predict that a few decades from now when TIF districts expire, the special interests running the TIF districts will lobby legislature to renew the districts as well, so we may never see anytax contributions from this high density development. Mayor Andrus, You could save me some work if you have a simple cc button to send this message to rest of your commission. Thank you.
