RE: 525 Valley Dr. annexation and installation of new sidewalks
Dear City Commissioners:
Today I am writing in regards to the annexation agreement signed and approved by the commission that
requires the installation of a sidewalk in front of 525 Valley Dr. I am prepared to fulfill the obligation for
sidewalks outlined in the annexation, however, in the past the City has postponed the requirement of
installing sidewalks on annexed parcels until lots have been built on and the homes have been finished.
I would like to propose delaying the installation of sidewalks until all of the lots in the Smith Subdivision
have annexed in to the City. Once all properties have annexed in a sidewalk would be installed to serve
the whole subdivision.
At this time there are seven remaining lots in the Smith Subdivision with functioning septic systems. This
means that it may be several years before all the lots have annexed into the City. Having a sidewalk to
and from nowhere will provide no benefit to the neighborhood, create more maintenance and only
deteriorate. In the meantime, there is a sidewalk installed across the street (on the East side of Valley
Dr.).
Having spoken with the neighbors it appears that there would be a unanimous vote in favor of signing
an agreement with the city that allows the Smith subdivision residences to install sidewalks once all
parcels have been annexed in.
