Mayor and Commissioners,
Except for the fact I am out of town, I would be at tonight's Commission meeting to
remind you verbally of the request the Bozeman (Area) Pedestrian and Traffic SafetyCommittee sent you May 21 (see below).
Please budget at least $7,500 for supplies and services needed to help implement theBozeman Area Community Transportation Plan (CTSP) that you adopted five yearsago. PTS has officially appointed Marilee Brown as the CTSP Coordinator and she hasshared with you a budget of slightly under $8,000 for the efforts she is planning and PTSsupports. Please completely fund her request.

Mayor Andrus and City Commissioners,
Five years ago (2013) the Montana Department of Transportation paid aconsulting firm from Boston to work with the Bozeman community and develop
a Community Transportation Safety Plan for Bozeman. Many of us participatedin the development of that plan. The completed plan was adopted by the
Bozeman City Commission.
The Commission expressed concern that the plan might just "sit" on theshelf. The Bozeman (Area) Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Committee said it
would carry forward with the plan's implementation.
The local understanding was MDT would provide at least some funding tosupport the plan's implementation. However, despite City Engineer Rick
Hixson's best efforts no such funding ever materialized. Therefore the planunfortunately has just been sitting on the shelf.
We now have an opportunity to move forward. Marilee Brown,
Director of Safer Bozeman, has informed PTS that her organization is willingto partner with the City in implementing the plan. This is a golden
opportunity we should not turn down. To support the implementation, PTSasks the City Commission to budget at least $7,500 during the 2018-2019
fiscal year.
The money would be used to fund publication of relevant resources, thepreparation of Public Service Announcements (PSA's), conduct training and
educational efforts, and and similar expenses. One of the major efforts would bereducing distracted driving, biking, and walking occurrences.
City staff has told us this budget item might be added at various places in the
City's budget. We trust your judgement on just where and how to insert this lineitem. We just want to finally get this important effort finally moving forward.
