The Bozeman Public Library is a one-story greek-cross design,y with a raised central portion and the main floor six feet above grade to allow light to tiie basement rooms. The main external staircase leading to the entry is of dressed granite with flanking walls of sandstone and four Roman Doric columns supporting a triangular pediment of san.dstone .and light brick. A carved stone plaque bearing. the name "Carnegie Library" is located on the_.pediment. Windows in .the tower-1 i.ke square raised portion :are-. squared 8-light windows and similar windows appear as a transom above the main entry. All other windows are wood double-hung 1/1 , those on the main floor tall and rectangular, and on the basement level almost square, all having sandstone sills. Light colored brick frames the windows of the red brick structure and forms decorative patterns on the corners of the building. The foundation is of rock-faced sandstone which extends up to the main level . On the north wing there is an entry to the half-basement with a concrete frame tunnel leading to the door (this is a later addition) . The hip-roof on building had a slate covering originally but in the 1920' s was covered with composition shingles . Few changes have been made in the external appearance of the building and only a few internallly to meet the demands ofgrowth over this time period.
