Curtiss 1985 revision Matt Cohen , surveyor A fine example of a vernacular pattern book house , this house was in the Fitzgerald family for about 50 years , and possibly longer . The single hexagonal porch column is un- usual . The house design appears to have been derived from several patterns in Fred T . Hodgson ' s mail order catalog : Practical Bungalows and Cottages for Town and Country . The name James Fitzgerald appears on the sewer and water permits of 1917 , though it is unknown if he was the original owner . Fitzgerald was a weighmaster employed by the Northern Pacific Railraod . The name M . Fitzgerald appears on a later water service record of 1961 . James Fitzgerald , Jr . , who lived at 25 E . Story , ran a grocery next door , at 410 W . Curtiss . Brister ' s walking tour , which indicates that 404 W . Curtiss was originally the residence of Col . Perry Chisholm , is probably incorrect . The porch enclosure appears to be only seasonal .
