Many of us participated in the development of that plan. Thecompleted plan was adopted by the Bozeman City Commission. The Commission expressed concern that the plan might just "sit" on the shelf. The Bozeman (Area) Pedestrian and Traffic Safety Committee said it would carry forward with theplan's implementation. The local understanding was MDT would provide at least some funding to support the plan's implementation. However, despite City Engineer Rick Hixson's best efforts no suchfunding ever materialized. Therefore the plan unfortunately has just been sitting on the shelf. We now have an opportunity to move forward. Marilee Brown, Director of SaferBozeman, has informed PTS that her organization is willing to partner with the City in implementing the plan. This is a golden opportunity we should not turn down. Tosupport the implementation, PTS asks the City Commission to budget at least $7,500during the 2018-2019 fiscal year. The money would be used to fund publication of relevant resources, the preparation of Public Service Announcements (PSA's), conduct training and educational efforts, and andsimilar expenses. One of the major efforts would be reducing distracted driving, biking, and walking occurrences. City staff has told us this budget item might be added at various places in the City's budget. We trust your judgement on just where and how to insert this line item. We just want to finally get this important effort finally moving forward. Ralph W.
