SUBJECT: Authorize the City Manager to sign agreement with Montana Rail Link
(MRL) – Broadway Crossing MEETING DATE: May 21, 2018 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent Agenda
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize City Manager to sign agreement with Montana Rail Link for improvements to the Broadway crossing.
BACKGROUND: The railroad spur crossing of Broadway near Mendenhall Street
has deteriorated to the point where improvements are needed to keep the crossing safe and functional. Citizen complaints regarding the condition of this crossing are common. MRL has proposed to upgrade the street crossing with a new concrete crossing surface to
replace the existing asphalt/wood surfaces. They are requesting
reimbursement from the City of Bozeman for the cost of materials and shipping. The estimated cost to be borne by the city (as specified in the agreement) is $34,707.00. Staff recommends entering into this agreement for this crossing upgrade.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None identified ALTERNATIVES: Continue to patch/repair existing crossing.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Funds are available in general contracted services, Street
