Concisely,accurately,and completely describe the property and alterations with dates. Number the buildings and features to

According to the 1904 Sanborn Maps and an early 1900s photograph,this outbuilding was constructed pre-
1904,most likely around the same time as the Ketterer Home(ca. 1903),which was the primary residence for
Emil Ketterer, a local Bozeman blacksmith in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Note that the Ketterer Residence
and outbuilding were constructed following the demolition of an older 11/2 story frame dwelling and 11/2 story
accessory structure.There is documentation that Ketterer's brother in law, Louis Kreuger,a brick layer,
constructed the main residence;therefore,although no specific documentation exists, he may have also
contributed to the construction of this outbuilding.
This wood-framed 930 square foot outbuilding is located at the south property line and includes two main
forms distinguished by building height and roof shape.The most prominent form is the 1 1/2 story portion of the
structure that is approximately 23'-6" in height measured from the alley side(note that the grade drops to the
north).This portion of the structure is approximately 600 square feet,has a wood floor and no visible
foundation. Delta rib metal roofing is located on the roof which has a 12:12 pitch.The secondary form is
smaller with only 330 square feet and a lower shed roof with asphalt shingles and a pitch of 4:12.This portion
of the building sits on a concrete slab on the west side of the main structure flush with the south wall but
setback 6 feet from the north wall of the primary form.
The primary siding material is dark red 28"x 60" sheet metal panels stamped with a faux brick pattern.
Horizontal wood shiplap siding can be noted under portions of the deteriorated siding. Note that the 1904
Sanborn map calls out"Iron CU'as the exterior finish. 1 x 6 vertical board siding creates a wainscot along the
majority of the east and south elevations of the primary form. Darker wood board and batten siding is located
on a portion of the south elevation and all of the west elevation.A buff brick wainscot sits below the board and
batten siding.The dark brown stained wood trim has varying widths around the windows and doors.
The east elevation includes what appears to be the main entrance to the structure.Although boarded up,the
south elevation has a sliding carriage door, a small man door and three windows including two boarded up
windows(with a five-by-three sash pattern) and one large second floor window that continues all the way up
into the gable.The north elevation replicates the same upper level window and also has a small hinged door
concealed with the pressed metal siding. Note that a 1958 sketch of the outbuilding by an unknown artist does
not show these upper level windows. It is unclear if they were part of the original construction.The west
elevation for the addition is largely obscured by fencing but does include one boarded up window with a two-
by-two sash pattern.

Note that extensive documentation has already been completed on Emil Ketterer and the Ketterer Residence as
the property is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places(Site Number 24 GA 711).
According to the Nomination Form as a, "significant example of late Victorian period architecture and
represents the economic prosperity enjoyed by a skilled artisan and entrepreneur who provide an essential
service to this burgeoning Western agricultural community during the late 19"' Century."
This property record only applies to the outbuilding located to the south of the Ketterer Residence.
This outbuilding was constructed pre-1904 and was likely used for storage and as a shop or barn by the
Ketterer Family who resided on the property until the late 1960s.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Ray Campeau and Rand Honadel remodeled the main residence as an adult
art education center. During this time,the"Ketterer Barn,"as it was called,was used as a studio and shop.An
informational pamphlet lists several businesses including: "Mountain Woodworking. Bill Clinton. All Types of
custom woodwork turning and furniture," "Woodcraft Signs.Tom McGeachy& Duncan Kippen. Complete
professional painting and design service specializing in ornamental wood carved signs," "Aerospace Iron
Industries. Michael T. Sedlak& Michael Shayne.Custom Decorative Iron Work,"and "Furniture Doctor. Marvin
Weaver. Compete furniture restoration"
In the early 1980s,the law firm of Goetz, Madden and Dunn purchased the property.The law firm of Goetz,
Gallik, Baldwin&Geddes P.C. currently owns the property.The outbuilding continues to be used for storage
and a shop.
