As the situation stands now, the curb on our block is nearly always fully populated with cars during the day when school is in session. Even though we buy 2 guest passes each year, there are times when I can't offer the pass to a guest because there are simply no parking spaces available. Because this is not a problem when school is not in session, it is clear that the problem is caused by MSU traffic. From discussions I've read, one impetus to the proposed rule change is that the *outer edges* of the restricted parking districts are being impacted. If a certain number of people are willing to walk 8 blocks through the restricted parking district, how many more will choose to park closer if that's an option? If there is not enough parking on MSU campus, this problem should be solved for the sake of the institution. But clogging the streets of the surrounding community is not the answer.
