It is a pleasure knowing that our local government is managed in the right hands. I am writing to you today to put forth a proposal for discussion and hopefully implementation (at some point). There are amber flashing LED lights on Kagy that students can activate for crosswalk safety when attending school at MSU. They are exceptional for providing safety day and night and raising driver awareness. It is my hope and the hope of many other students that such a flashing system can be implemented at the crosswalk on Lincoln St crossing the 4 high speed lanes on S. 19th. Even during the daytime students often cannot cross 19th safely as one car may stop while folks whiz by in the other three lanes. This hazard is exacerbated during the 5pm rush hour and at night in low visibility. Often times students get stranded on the divider in the middle of 19th while cars continue flying past without stopping. Although the crosswalk is marked and there are large signs, nobody takes note of the crosswalk. It would be a tremendous safety benefit to re-assess the crosswalk there and perhaps install the flashing LED lights for that area. Thank you Kindly for your consideration regarding this safety issue.
