Work Examples
CANNERY DISTRICT
Bozeman, Montana
The Cannery District commercial development
master plan. Located on the northern edge
of Bozeman, the site of the long forgotten
canning warehouse, is quickly becoming one of
Bozeman’s premier commercial districts.
The planning and development process focused
on creating a truly unique environment that
feels more like a campus than a commercial
business district. Working closely with the City
of Bozeman planning department, the design
team was able to develop a comprehensive
multi-phase, multi year PUD master plan which
allows for continued development with minimal
interference with existing district businesses.
Design 5’s role in the project included site planning
and planting design support in collaboration
with Linda Iverson Landscape Design. Planting
beds have been designed with drought tolerant
species. All parking lot swales are designed as
infi ltration basins using water tolerant plants and
infi ltrating, engineered soils.
STORY MILL COMMUNITY PARK
Bozeman, Montana
The Story Mill Park will protect and transform
60 acres adjoining the historic Story Mill in
Bozeman, Montana, into a unique city park
with opportunities for active recreation, outdoor
and community gathering spaces, a nature
sanctuary, new trails and trail connections, and
natural and cultural interpretive programs. All
while enhancing and reestablishing the native
wetland habitat.
Working closely with the Trust for Public Land,
since 2012, we have collaborated with; design
professionals, wetland specialists, and The City
of Bozeman striving to create a true keystone
park for the city and surrounding communities.
In the fi nal phase of this project we have worked
as a consultant to Design Workshop and we will
be doing construction observation as the park is
built.

COMMUNITY FOOD CO-OP
Bozeman, Montana
Bozeman Community Food CO-OP parking lot
landscaping strives to create the feel of a park
within a parking lot.
The massing of plant material creates drifts of
color within the parking infrastructure while
providing a low maintenance alternative to
traditional parking lot landscaping. Waterwise
and adaptive species were used throughout the
site to reduce the environmental impact of the
landscape.
Raised steel vegetable planters, natural steel
edging, and concrete seat walls provide the
contemporary frame work of the landscape.
These shifts in hardscape material develop the
space making of the site creating areas of refuge
within the public space.

in the region. She started her design practice in 1995. Prior to that, she worked at Blake Nurs-
ery in Big Timber shortly after graduating from Montana State in 1980 with a degree in land-

Montana Native Plant Society for 2 terms. She continues to follow up on her projects for years,
resulting in a vast knowledge of maintenance needs. She specializes in seeding native grass
and wildfl owers in many different environments.

to Villard, The College St. medians from 19th Ave. to Main St. and S. 8th Ave. median between
