Commission Memorandum
REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Commission
FROM: Kristin Donald, Finance Director
Josh Waldo, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Commission Resolution No. 4877 – Amending the City’s Annual Budget
for the Fire Equipment and Capital Fund Appropriations for the Fiscal
Year Ending June 30, 2018 (FY18).
MEETING DATE: April 16, 2018
AGENDA ITEM: Action
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Resolution No. 4877- Amending the City’s Annual
Budget for Fire Equipment and Capital Fund Appropriations.
BACKGROUND:
Currently, the Fire Department uses manual cots, which require additional lifting by the
firefighters to load and unload patients from the ambulance. The Department tried to partner with
AMR to use their power cots and were not include in the Capital Improvement Plan, but due to
insurance issues this is no longer an option. The power cots eliminate some of the lifting thus
reducing the risk of potential injury to one of the firefighters. The estimated costs to replace the
manual cots with the power cots is just over $16,000 each for a total of $34,000
ALTERNATIVES: Do not fund the equipment purchase at this time.

FISCAL EFFECTS: The current budgeted spending in the Fire Equipment and Capital Fund
will increase by a total of $34,000. The FY18 estimated ending cash balance in the Fire Equipment
and Capital Fund will be decreased from $1,036,740, to $1,002,740.
