Under 7.5 I'd really like to see more vigorous enforcement of the private property owner upkeep of
snowy/icy sidewalks. I don't think it would hurt to make fines a source of revenue - I think it would do the
trick. I regularly walk on S. 5th (south of Grant) and S. 11th (west side past Town & Country) and west Main
St. (7th - 11th) and run into frequent dangerous walking conditions due to poor sidewalk clearing. This
should be an objective also under the 4.5.a since encouraging walking in winter requires clear sidewalks.
In addition, the poor maintenance of Bozeman roads in winter worries me, especially as the roads narrow
and narrow and cars as well as bikes and buses fight to be able to move through the streets safely and
efficiently. I feel strongly the city needs a stronger snow emergency policy that requires alternate side
parking (with fines/towing) to allow more thorough plowing and snow removal by our hard-working street
maintenance crews. In particular I think there should be special attention to full and complete snow
clearing/removal on bus routes. I ride the Blue Line regularly in winter and have seen it have to wait and
barely squeak by other traffic under winter road conditions. finally, I suspect strongly we need more plows
and plowing crews to accomplish street safety and efficiency throughout the winter and throughout the
city.
Thank you,
City Of Bozeman
