First Name WILLIAM Last Name VANDENBOS Email WMJVANDENBOS@MSN.COM Questions or Comments I appreciate the time and effort of our community leaders in attempting to manage what apparently is pretty much inevitable--the growth beyond recognition of our town, and the loss of the beauty and solitude of the natural world to which those of us who are lucky enough to have lived here for awhile have become so accustomed. My primary concern is health and safety, as it relates to animal control or the lack thereof. Proper planning for law enforcement means that we have sufficient resources allocated in order to do the job at hand. Our recent experience of having NO animal control officers is unacceptable. I understand that resources are precious and are going to be contested by various interests in our city government--fair enough. What is unfair is that the costs of pet ownership by a relatively minor percentage of our population is borne by whole, with little to no buy-in on the part of the pet owner. This is most evident in dog ownership, but can also be seen with cats. With licenses that are virtually free, and little concern with penalties for breaking basic animal control codes, pet owners in Bozeman have a free ride. Proper planning will put animal control officers on the street. Realistic license fees will have to be formulated so that the pet owners are bearing the bulk of the costs. While there is a place for education, proper enforcement means that citations are not the exception but the rule. Thank you for taking the time to consider my comments.
