First Name Tyson Last Name Krinke Email tyson@greatergallatinunitedway.org Questions or Comments I'm writing on behalf of the Greater Gallatin United Way in Bozeman, and I'd like to urge the City to consider ways to address the growing demand and lack of supply of high-quality early care and education (a.k.a. childcare & preschool) programs in our area. Current availability of high-quality early care and education slots does not match the need in the community. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported one year ago that the child care industry is overburdened and is in a crisis and this continues to be the case. This is especially true for low-income families and families looking for care for their infants. Our initial rough estimates show that to meet the need for early care in the community the current number of slots needs to be nearly doubled. And on top of that, if the population growth rate continues it's current pace, we need to think about continuing this growth in the childcare industry to match the future need. Working families need high-quality, reliable care so they can work and continue to earn a living wage. Many face work detrimental work absences due to a breakdown in care. Having high-quality and affordable care available in the community is great for businesses as well and improves their recruitment and retention efforts. And, possibly most important of all, research shows high-quality early care and education programs are good for children enabling them to fare better in school and develop strong language and social skills ultimately leading to high school graduation and college and career readiness. We at Greater Gallatin United Way would like to connect with City to discuss ways we can work together as a community to meet this need and help our children and families live happy and health lives. I can be contacted at 406-587-2194 with any questions. Thank you. Thank you, City Of Bozeman This is an automated message generated by the Vision Content Management Systemâ„¢.
