Questions or Comments
Many parts of the City's proposed Strategic Plan move Bozeman in a positive direction.
However I have concerns or questions in 3 areas.
2.4a Innovative Economy -Partnerships to Spur Economic Vitality
"Diversify use of tourism funds" sounds reasonable but to do this "to attract a greater number of visitors" is
a concern. Yes, tourism is important in Bozeman and it will grow but for the City to promote greater
tourism growth when infrastructure and traffic etc, etc, etc are stressed already with such rapid growth
(visitors can be temporary or permanent growth) is not healthy or smart. If the state legislature would allow
cities to have a "resort" tax - well that would help some but I would encourage the city to tone down 2.4a
to say "attract visitors" but not to attract a greater number.
3.1a Public Safety - Develop a Criminal Justice Facility Plan. Seems right now that the City is not working
with Gallatin County to create a joint city County facility. If the City is not planning to do this, should this be
in the strategic plan at all?
4.5a Well Planned City - Housing & Transportation
Good stuff here - both enhance non-motorized transportation and develop affordable housing action plan.
But where is public transportation listed?
Don't see any. Although Stream Line is not City run, the City does help fund it. Which is good. I would
encourage the addition of "Explore working with Streamline to expand bus lines to the west side of
Bozeman" where so much growth is happening.
A Vision of a Sustainable Environment is really important and the proposed Strategic Plan is strong here. For
water, air, climate action, adaptation & mitigation. Very important to continue work in these areas to
continue to make Bozeman a Most Livable and prepared City. Parks, Trails & Open Space are huge too and
help define Bozeman.
Thank you for your consideration in these areas of the proposed Bozeman Strategic Plan.
Thank you,
City Of Bozeman
