Re: Park Place Growth Policy Amendment, File 18-055
Dear City Commissioners,
I am writing in regard to the proposed annexation and industrial development of the above proposed
project. I am chagrined to learn that yet another chunk of rural land is up for industrial development.
Good planning would keep all such development in one area rather than have it spread all the way from
Manhattan to North Seventh, all along the Frontage Road east of Bozeman and likewise Huffine Lane
past Four Corners. I understand the desire for highway access, but, if our city and county fathers want
to continue to declare this valley and Bozeman as the"Last Best Place"they should look carefully at
what has.happened. A recent former Bozemanite returning for a visit after some years absence
commented the"place is junked up". I fully realize that growth is inevitable, but good, sound planning
with an eye sympathetic to the quality of the community and not developers pocket books would be the
greatest asset of all.
I have lived down Nelson Road for forty plus years and cherish the wildlife—turkeys, deer, pheasants,
bald eagles, a variety of hawks and countless other wildlife. Industrial development is going to
drastically affect all of it. Already, the sale of the adjoining property to this proposed development(on
which storage containers are placed) has caused displacement of the wildlife.
Another practical reason, if good arable top soil has to be loaded out and rocks brought in in order to
build, then that development is in the wrong location. That is what happened along the North 19th
corridor and is going to happen with the Mandeville Farm. I am reminded of the Joni Mitchell song
"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot". I sing that in my head every time I drive North 19tn
I realize that this is an emotional plea, but I love this valley and it is heart-breaking for me to see how it
is being abused. All entries to Bozeman are trash! City fathers and mothers have worked hard to create
a jewel, but one has to reach it via junk yards! Not a great futuristic prospect for Bozeman down the
road. I am asking that at the very least, you wait to see the outcome of the upcoming Open Lands
proposition, before making any decision, concerning annexation or industrial use.
Sincerely,
L,-cp,
.
