Kankrlik - Law and Justice CenterFrom:Margie Kankrlik To:Brian Gootkin; Agenda; commission@gallatin.mt.gov; Steve Crawford Subject:Law & Justice Center Date:Sunday, April 08, 2018 7:19:31 AM As many of you know, I am one of the strongest supporters of a new law and justice center in Gallatin Valley. Immediately after the defeat of the last bond issue for this purpose, Iattempted to get involved with the goal of making the public more aware of the urgency to get this done. A big "selling" point last time was the departments working together, minimizingduplication of common necessities (bathrooms, conference rooms, etc.), ease of interaction between departments, etc. Instead of utilizing the original plan, which after the vote I found out the plan would serve thecommunity for 25 years, new ideas were presented, additional money spent, a lawsuit was filed, and now the city wants to act on its own. The argument by the city that working alonewill save tax payers money because of the delay in building or moving a fire station, is grossly misleading. As much as I want all of you to have a decent, safe place to work, I will not vote for a separatefacility and I will be very vocal with my friends to vote against a stand alone bond. On the other hand, if you change your tactics, present a bond that serves all of you for the foreseeable future as well as the courts, and develop a marketing plan to reach out to the votersso they truly understand the need, then I will become very active in promoting the bond. City Commissioners, please rethink your approach, City and County Commissioners, learn to work together. Any bond(s) presented without consolidation will receive a no vote from me.
