HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-05-18 Public Comment - K. Crawford - Strategic PlanTo: Bozeman City Commission
Re: Draft Vision; 3-5-18 April 5,
2018
Here are my comments. Some are specific, others not so. Thank you for this
opportunity.
1. 1.1 and 1.2 cannot be overemphasized.
2. 1.3: Should also include relationships/meetings with other communities that
influence Bozeman (Livingston, West Yellowstone, Three Forks…) and Federal
Agencies (many in Bozeman)
3. All of Section 2. An Innovative Economy sounds like we don't have a problem with
too much growth too fast !!! This needs slowed down.
Just what is meant by "leveraging our natural amenities" ? It sure sounds like a
blatant disregard for our knowledge that too many people in too small of a place can
and will ruin the natural environment.
I know that statements, like in 2.1 … "while welcoming and encouraging new and
existing businesses" , can be used to argue for a reduction, if not elimination, of impact
fees. That is unacceptable in a city that is concerned about its health.
4. 4a: Why a "streamlined development review process"? If what you mean is "keep
the process working smoothly, by the books" , OK; but ,not if you mean "hurry it up
and skip some review parts so development can happen faster and cheaper"…
5. 4.1.b. Develop and Align Infill Policies: This is what might make or break the
lovely Bozeman City we now have…. for example look at the possibility of new
(probably high-end) duplexes displacing a trailer park with probable affordable
housing…;;
these decisions need to be made extremely carefully;;; you know the city's citizens are
watching very closely as to whether or not developers win the hearts of the
commission..
6. 4.1.c. Absolutely beef up the very critical tool of GIS, in all its needs….
7. 4.3.d ; Absolutely Yes to exploring and utilizing !!! We live a region of prime
solar energy. We should do everything we can to utilize it….
8. 4.4.a This directive seems filled with open holes….What is this?
9. 4.5.a…Include "enhance motorized transportation" also……
10. 5.2. The City should work very closely with the Emerson Center for the Arts and
Culture on this; especially since the lawn is now theirs, there will be music, and outdoor
arts, etc. etc.
11. 5.3.a. Probably include MOSS, as well as many of the local organizations
12. 6.4. Climate Change Adaption and Mitigation is HUGE; our healthy lives depend
on this; sooner rather than later work needs to be done
Thank you,
