Briefly describe your organization's history and the overall scope of your programs and services. Include a comprehensive list of the programs your organization provides. If your organization offers programs at multiple locations, please only list the programs that you provide at the site where the play area or equipment will be located. The City of Bozeman Parks Division is responsible for the overall development and maintenance of over 450 acres including 42 public parks, 52 miles of trails, sports fields, playgrounds, park buildings, and natural open space areas within the City limits. Much of our parks, trails and open spaces are managed in partnership with local groups, which helps to maximize every dollar. The Recreation Division manages a wide variety of programs for all ages throughout the city. At the Bozeman Sports Park, the focus will be primarily on field sports, including youth and adult soccer, lacrosse, and rugby. The park entry pavilion, which includes a restroom and vending facility, will serve as a trail system wayfinding station and orientation site for the facility. The trails, playground, and open space areas will serve the entire community and provide opportunities for picnicking, ultimate frisbee, Tball, outdoor exercise classes and many other activities. The Bozeman Sports Park site is a destination park for field sport leagues, tournaments, and special events that will draw visitors from throughout the region. The Recreation Division will also hold supervised day camps for field sports and other activities throughout the summer at the park. 4 / 8 Describe the community you serve and the neighborhood and/or children who will use the play equipment or Play Everywhere installation. Why is it important for your community and the children you serve to have a new play area or equipment? We want to know what makes your community unique and why you need this grant! Feel free to overshare. During the master planning of the Bozeman Sports Park site, many community members requested that play equipment be installed early on. It is needed for a number of reasons: 1) for smaller children and siblings that do not play soccer; 2) to encourage interactive play outside of fields sports and during waiting periods between games; 3) as an amenity for the park and the entire community, as well as visitors. Additional features that are planned for the Sports Park include a splashpad; walking/jogging paths; open play areas; picnic pavilions; and a dog agility course. Is there an event motivating your community to apply for this opportunity? Example: A natural disaster, or other event that impacted the quality of life for members of your community. Yes Please Describe The "event" is really the tremendous population growth we are experiencing, especially of youth under 12. Playgrounds are highly requested throughout the city. Play brings friends and families together, teaching kids how to interact as part of a group, resolving conflicts, and strengthening bonds. Site Information This is the address where the play equipment or Play Everywhere project will be located. You must list a full address. Providing a cross street or a blank address instead of a street number will delay consideration of your application. Street Address 4600 Baxter Ln City Bozeman Zip Code 59718 State Montana County Gallatin 5 / 8 How many children will use the proposed play equipment? Please do not multiply the number of children you serve per day by seven or 365 to calculate the number served per week and per year. Per Day • How many children do you serve on an average day? • Example: King Elementary has 400 students. Per Day total is 400. Per Week • How many individual children do you serve in an average week? Every child who visits the site should only be counted one time, even if they visit the site multiple days of the week. • Example: King Elementary has 400 students. Once a week they host a soccer program attended by 100 kids who are not enrolled at the school. Per week total is 500. Per Year • On average, how many children do you serve a year? Take the number of children served per week and add the number of additional children you serve through annual events or turnover. • Example: King Elementary Per Week total is 500. Every year they host a fall festival attended by 100 kids who are not enrolled in the school. Per Year total is 600. Per Day 50 Per Week 350 Per Year 5000 Describe how you calculated the number of children served in the question above. Please note the programs, events, and circumstances behind the number of children that you have shared. The playground will be in a developing area in a park that will host numerous special events, such as soccer and lacrosse practices, games, and tournaments, day camps, running races, aerial device competitions, etc. The total numbers will grow over time. If your organization collects information on the median household income of the individuals you serve, please include. If median household income information is unavailable through your organization's data, please use this link to define the income based on the zip code nearest to the proposed site. $46422 Is there anything else you feel like we need to know about the ethnicity or socio-economic status of the population you serve? To be honest, Bozeman is not very ethnically diverse, however, it is changing rapidly. The median income is over $10K lower than the nation's. The area's economy is predominantly service sector as tourism is the state's #1 economic driver. As such, many people work several low-wage jobs as the cost of living is quite high. Private child care is very expensive, which is why our Recreation Division offers so many programs and day camps, which are always full. We also have a scholarship program for any child who qualifies for FRPL, or from any low income family. We have a high number of undocumented immigrants working in construction and service jobs as well. This is the end of Part 1. Include a picture of the child or family you describe in the candid photos section above. Many, many children will benefit from this project, especially children who cannot, for whatever reason, participate in field sports as it will be an "all-inclusive" playground. A friend of mine has two boys with special needs. Her older son has epilepsy and cannot use most traditional play equipment because he could have a seizure at any given moment and fall off. We could in stall high-back swings, a seated- spinner, and other features that would be safe for him to use with his brother. Children with disabilities would be able to play side-by-side with their friends in this setting. Spotlight a unique, impactful, and/or innovative program that your organization offers. Bozeman truly is "the most livable city." People live here because they love to be outdoors throughout the year. That said, parents here still struggle to get kids engaged in physical activity. Most families have two working parents as the cost of living is quite high. Private sports clubs can be prohibitively expensive. Our department is committed to providing broad public access to a wide variety of programs and activities to serve the entire community. The playground in the Sports Park is intended to be an "all- inclusive" play area, encouraging integrative play and learning activities for children of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. By partnering with the Bozeman Sports Park Foundation, KABOOM and others, we hope to make that vision a reality! Congratulations!
