Schulz - S. 19th Speed Limit ReviewFrom:Lara Schulz To:Agenda Subject:Review of and change to speed limit south 19 between Stucky and Graf Date:Wednesday, March 21, 2018 9:12:02 PM My name is Lara Schulz. I am a resident of Meadow Creek and would like to request a review of the speed limit of the area of south 19th between Stucky and Graf. I have spoken with Andy Kurr, who concurs that criteria have been met to merit the review of the speed limit of this particular corridor- such as; the normal review every 5 years, or any major change in roadway configuration ( i.e. new traffic light in this case) and roadside development (i.e. the many new residential developments on either side of this corridor). I have lived here a short 5 months and in as many months have had 5 incidents of vehicles insisting upon accelerating to the speed limit (which is 60 mph) behind me as I am preparing to turn west bound into Meadow Creek. Vehicles accelerating to this speed have difficulty slowing to a stop in due time and are regular accelerating through a yellow light, or worse, running a red light. It is extremely dangerous and it is irresponsible to not decrease the speed limit to at least 45. People regularly cross this intersection in vehicles, on bikes and by foot. Please be proactive and change this now so that we don't see tragedies like what happened on Huffine in 2003 (when a young boy was struck and killed) and again in 2013 (when a truck driver "didn't see a pedestrian in time"). Do not wait for a fatality for the city to take measures to reduce speeds in these areas where residential traffic and people intersect with a state highways or other similar high speed corridors. I request that this review is done expeditiously and that law enforcement make a presence in the area regularly until a reduction in the speed limit has taken place. Please contact me via the telephone number or email address below with any feedback, information or further questions you may have.
