PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structurelsite,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance,
noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials. Discuss significant architectural features.
This two-story church has an irregular plan with a gabled entry door on,
one bay and a shed-roofed entry on the corner of the other bay. The two
bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of the two entries with double-hung
and stained glass windows grouped under segmental arches. The frame construc-
tion is covered with stucco with a combination of wood screeds , scored joints ,
and wood rake and corner trim. It sits on a concrete foundation covered
with stucco over most areas. The gable-hipped combination roof is covered
with cedar shingles and features gabled dormers. The addition to the south
has a flat built-up roof. The main axis of the roof lies parallel to the
street.

This property is significant because the First Christian Church was an early
Member of the Bozeman religious community. The Christian Church organized in
Bozeman in 1887 under the Reverend Martin L. Strictor and with volunteer help
a brick church was construction the following year from a design by local
architect-builder Byron Vreeland and builder W.T. Brandenburg. The new
structure was named in honor of Lori Payne of Missouri who initiated a
fund drive for -the church. The building was renamed Grand Avenue Christian
Church in 1928.

This structure is potentially eligible for the National Register because
of its historical associations and because of its architectural significance.
