PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance,
noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features.
This one-and-one-half story single-family residence has an L-shaped plan
with an open front porch in the interior joint of the ell and a hipped-
roof addition on the west side. There are also three bay porches on the
east side. The two-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an off-center
glass-paned front entrance with fixed windows on the other facade, one
small round stained glass window and one with a stained glass transom.
The bearing wall construction is finished in brick American bond with
header courses every seven rows. The house rests on a cut stone foundation.
The gable roof is covered with green asphalt shingles and features one
shed-roofed dormer, and overhanging boxed eaves. There are two central brick
chimneys. Outbuildings include a garage.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site
and surrounding area lend the property significance.
This building is significant because this residence was built and owned by a
person important in Bozeman history, Louis Krueger. Krueger, a native of
Germany, emigranted to the United States in 1860 and settled in Bozeman in
1873. Following his trade of building and contracting, he also worked as
a bricksman. lie owned much of this property in this area of Bozeman. The
Krueger family lived in this house until the 1930s. He built many buildings,
both public and private, in Bozeman, including his brother-in-law's house,
Emil Ketterer on 35 North Grand (11.R.) and the Krueger Block in 1891 at
136-140 East Main.
Significance: This structure is potentially eligible for the National Register
of Historic Places because of i¢s historical associations and because of its
architectural integrity of materials, location, setting, design and use.
INTEGRITY: Assess the degree to which the structure/site,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the
property.
The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival
of original design and materials and continuity of use, setting and location.
