Department of Sanitation PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features. This detached one-and-one-half story single-family residence has an ell-shaped plan with an enclosed front porch in the interior of the ell . The two bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset glass-paned front entrance with five 1/1 double-hung windows , three on the porch with the door, and two on the main facade of the house. The frame construction is finished in 8" siding and rests on a concrete foundation. The gable roof is covered with green asphalt shingles and features boxed, overhanging eaves. Alterations include the porch which appears to have been added later. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site and surrounding area lend the property significance. This residence was built for William M. Nevitt , a local Main Street hardware merchant, who owned two buildings, the Nevitt Building, 107-113 East Main built in 1888 and the Gallatin Block, built in 1901. Significance: This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman's historic/architectural development, and with an historical person.
