This detached one-and-one-half story single-family residence has a T-shaped
plan in an upright and wing style. There is an open front porch which has a
shed roof and wrought iron supports. The two-bay facade is asymmetrical and
consists of an offset front entrance with fixed and 1/1 double-hung windows.
The frame construction is finished in brick and rests on a low rubble foundation.
The gable roof is covered with light green asphalt shingles and has two brick
chimneys. Additions include a carport to the rear of the house. Outbuildings
include a detached two-car garage.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structure/site
and surrounding area lend the property significance.
This residence was built for Louis Hansen, early resident of Bozeman and
long time saloon and brewery ox:*ner, the Hansen-Ponsford saloon.
Significance: This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a
potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect
of the Village Phase of Bozeman' s historic/architectural development, and
with an historical person.
INTEGRITY: Assess the degree to which the structurelsite,and surrounding area accurately convey the historical associations of the
property.
The historic integrity of this property has been retained due to the survival
of original design and materials and continuity of use, setting and location.
