PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Describe present appearance of structure/site,then contrast and compare that with it's original appearance, noting additions,alterations,and changes in materials.Discuss significant architectural features. This detached two-story single-family residence has a T-shaped plan with a recessed porch on each story under the hipped roof. There is also an enclosed front porch on the other facade. The three-bay facade is asymmetrical and consists of an offset front entrance with fixed and 1/1 double-hung windows with stained glass in the upper part of the fixed windows. The frame construction is finished in brick veneer and rests on a cut stone foundation. The gable-hipped roof is covered with wood shakes and features -. overhanging, boxed eaves and three brick chimneys. The axis of the roof is perpendicular to the street. Outbuildings include a garage. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Justify how the persons,important events,and/or historical patterns associated with the structurelsite and surrounding area lend the property significance. This property was- built by Frank Vreeland as a residence for himself. Vreeland with his brother Byron, an architect-builder, erected many residences as well as commercial buildings in Bozeman. Frank Vreeland moved from the house about 1890 and then Al and Maria Orton lived here for many years. 1 This structure qualifies as a contributing element within a potential historic district due to its association with the residential aspect of the Civic Phase of Bozeman 's historic/architectural development.
