1985 revision
Matt Cohen , surveyor
This modest , well -preserved Bungalow makes a very significant
contribution to the streetscape , in large part due to its
location at the head of S . 5th Ave . , and between two non-
contributing apartment buildings . Were this house not located
here , the district boundary would probably have been shifted
to the west .
The house appears to be the work of local carpenter Elmer
Bartholomew , though no documented evidence has yet been found
to confirm this .
Frances Morris , whose name appears on the 1916 water permit
for the site , was probably the original owner . In 1916 , Mrs .
Frances Morris was listed as living at 425 S . Black St . .
It is unknown whether the Morris ' ever lived here . In 1927 ,
Lester W . and Gertrude M. Cottrell were living here .
